Mac app
How do I start using WBlur on my Mac?
Drag WBlur to your Applications folder and open it. It lives in your menu bar, not the Dock. Open WhatsApp, and WBlur blurs its window. Click the WBlur icon in the menu bar to choose what gets blurred.
Some options say “Requires Accessibility access”
Blurring each message, photo and chat row separately, and keeping the last 3 messages readable, need Accessibility access. Choose “Grant Accessibility access…” in WBlur, then turn WBlur on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
I gave Accessibility access, but it still doesn't work
After an update, macOS sometimes keeps an old entry. In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility, remove WBlur with the minus button, add it again, then quit and reopen WBlur.
The blur is in the wrong place
Without Accessibility access, WBlur uses fixed measurements of the WhatsApp window. Open “Layout…” from the WBlur menu and turn on “Show layout guides on WhatsApp” to adjust them. With Accessibility access, WBlur finds each element by itself.
Which macOS version do I need?
WBlur needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later, and the official WhatsApp app for Mac.
How do I uninstall WBlur?
Choose “Quit WBlur” from its menu, then drag WBlur from Applications to the Trash. You can also remove it from System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.

Browser extension
WhatsApp Web isn't blurred after installing
Reload the web.whatsapp.com tab once after installing, so the extension can load. Then check that WBlur is on: click its icon in the toolbar, or press Alt+X.
How do I change the Alt+X shortcut?
In Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera, open chrome://extensions/shortcuts. In Firefox, open about:addons, click the gear icon and choose “Manage Extension Shortcuts”.
Does it work in Firefox private windows?
Yes, once you allow it: open about:addons, select WBlur and set “Run in Private Windows” to Allow. WBlur needs Firefox 140 or later.
My settings appear on my other computer
WBlur saves its settings in your browser's extension storage. If browser sync is on, your browser copies them to your other devices. They never go to us.
How do I remove the extension?
Right-click the WBlur icon in your toolbar and choose “Remove from Chrome” (or “Remove Extension” in Firefox).

Trial, license & refunds
What does WBlur cost?
The browser extension is free. The Mac app is free for 3 days from the first time you open it, then a one-time $19 license key. No subscription.
How do I buy and enter a license key?
Choose "Buy a license" in the WBlur menu, or go to links.wblur.com/wblur-app. After you pay, Gumroad shows your key and emails it to you. Click "Copy" next to it, then "Activate WBlur" on the same page. You can also paste it at wblur.com/activate, or choose "Enter license key…" in the WBlur menu.
My trial ended. What now?
WBlur stops blurring until you enter a license key, and keeps all your settings. Buy a key, enter it, and WBlur picks up where it left off.
Can I use one license key on several Macs?
Yes, on up to 3 of your own Macs.
Does the license need an internet connection?
Only to activate the key, and for a quick check with Gumroad about once a week. Being offline never turns your license off.
I lost my license key
Gumroad emailed it to you after your purchase, and it's in your Gumroad library at gumroad.com/library. Or email me@kirwako.dev from the address you bought with.
How do I get a refund?
Email me@kirwako.dev within 14 days of your purchase with the email address you bought with. No questions asked.
Does WBlur read my messages?
No. WBlur only changes how WhatsApp looks on your screen. It doesn't read, store or send your messages. The extension makes no network requests, and the Mac app only contacts Gumroad to check your license key.
