Your screen is public. Your chats shouldn't be. WBlur frosts WhatsApp — messages, previews, photos and names — and clears only what's under your cursor. It comes as a Mac app that runs on top of WhatsApp, and as an extension for WhatsApp Web. Made for co-working spaces, cafés and offices, where screens are never really yours.
03Try it
This is WhatsApp with WBlur on. Point at a message, a name or a photo to read it. Move away and it blurs again, just like in the app and the extension.

04How it works
Get the Mac app for WhatsApp Desktop, or the extension for WhatsApp Web in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera or Arc.
Your messages, chat previews, photos, names and profile pictures are blurred straight away.
Point at a message to read it. Move the mouse away and it blurs again. Choose exactly what gets blurred.
05Features
On Mac, WhatsApp unlocks with Touch ID or your Mac's password; in the browser, with a PIN you choose. The browser extension also comes in 55 languages, turns on or off with Alt+X, shows everything while you hold Alt+Z, and can blur only the chats you pick.

08FAQ
WBlur is a privacy tool for WhatsApp. It blurs your messages, chat previews, photos, names and profile pictures until you hover over them, so people around you can't read your screen.
Yes. WBlur for Mac is a menu bar app that sits on top of the WhatsApp desktop app and blurs it. It needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
Chrome, Firefox (140 or later), Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera and Arc. It works on WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Business Web.
Yes, in the browser. The free extension blurs WhatsApp Web in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera and Arc on Windows, and on Linux and ChromeOS too. The WhatsApp desktop app for Windows isn't supported: open WhatsApp Web in your browser instead.
No. WBlur is for computers: the WhatsApp app on Mac, and WhatsApp Web in a desktop browser. On your phone, WhatsApp's own Chat Lock and hiding notification previews keep chats private.
The browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera and Arc is free. The Mac app is free for 7 days, then a one-time $9 license key, which works on up to 3 of your Macs. No subscription, and you get a full refund within 30 days if it's not for you.
WBlur stops blurring until you enter a license key. Choose "Buy a license" in the WBlur menu, then "Enter license key…" to unlock it. Your settings are kept.
No. WBlur only changes how WhatsApp looks on your screen. It does not read, store or send your messages, contacts or any information about you.
Yes. Turn each option on or off: all messages (keeping your last 1 to 10 readable if you like), chat previews, photos and videos, the media gallery, the text you type, profile pictures, and contact and group names. You can also choose how strong the blur is, and see your chats clearly while you search.
Yes. WBlur covers WhatsApp with a lock screen until you unlock it: with Touch ID or your Mac's password in the Mac app, or with a PIN you choose in the browser extension. It can also lock by itself after a few minutes without using WhatsApp, when your Mac goes to sleep, or whenever WhatsApp Web opens. It keeps your chats from people nearby; it doesn't encrypt anything.
Yes. Set a schedule, for example on at 9:00 and off at 17:00 on workdays, and WBlur switches itself at those times, in the Mac app and in the browser extension. You can still turn it on or off yourself in between.
In the browser extension, press Alt+X on WhatsApp Web to turn it on or off, hold Alt+Z to see everything for a moment, and press Alt+L to lock it once you've set a PIN. On Mac, use the WBlur icon in the menu bar.
Yes. The blur is drawn on your screen, so Zoom, Google Meet and Teams screen shares and recordings show WhatsApp blurred.
No. WBlur is an independent project and is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
