How to blur WhatsApp on Windows

Blur WhatsApp on a Windows PC or laptop: use WhatsApp Web in Chrome, Edge or Firefox with the free WBlur extension. What works, and what doesn't.

Updated

To blur WhatsApp on Windows, open WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com) in Chrome, Edge or Firefox and add the free WBlur extension. Your messages, chat previews, photos and names stay blurred until you point at them. The WhatsApp desktop app for Windows can't be blurred by WBlur, so WhatsApp Web in the browser is the way to do it.

Edge is already on every Windows PC, so you can be set up in a minute without installing anything else.

Why WhatsApp Web instead of the Windows app?

Browser extensions can change how a web page looks, which is how WBlur blurs WhatsApp Web. The WhatsApp app for Windows is a separate program that extensions can't reach, and WBlur's desktop app is made for macOS only.

WhatsApp Web shows the same chats as your phone, and stays signed in once you've linked it. Pin the tab in Edge or Chrome so it's always one click away, and the blur is there every time it opens.

Setting it up in Microsoft Edge

Edge installs extensions from the Chrome Web Store. Open WBlur's Chrome Web Store page in Edge, click “Allow extensions from other stores” when Edge asks, then add WBlur. Open web.whatsapp.com and your chats are blurred straight away.

If you're on a work laptop and Edge won't install extensions, your company manages the browser. Ask IT to allow WBlur: it only accesses web.whatsapp.com and sends no data anywhere.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does WBlur work with the WhatsApp app for Windows?

No. WBlur blurs WhatsApp Web in your browser, and the WhatsApp desktop app on Mac. On Windows, use WhatsApp Web with the free extension.

Which browser is best for WhatsApp Web on Windows?

Any of them works with WBlur: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Opera or Arc. Edge is already installed on Windows, so it's the quickest to start with.

Is the Windows setup free?

Yes. The WBlur browser extension is free in every supported browser. Only the Mac app is paid.

Is WBlur free?

The browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera and Arc is free. The Mac app is free for 7 days, then a one-time $9 license key for up to 3 Macs, with a 30-day refund if it's not for you.

Does WBlur read or collect my messages?

No. WBlur only changes how WhatsApp looks on your screen. It does not read, store or send your messages, contacts or any information about you.

Can the other person tell that I use WBlur?

No. WBlur only blurs what is shown on your own screen. Nothing changes in WhatsApp itself, and read receipts work exactly as before.
