In short
- WBlur never reads, stores or sends your WhatsApp messages, contacts or media.
- The browser extension doesn't send any data anywhere. The Mac app only checks your license key with Gumroad.
- Your settings stay on your device, or in your browser's own sync.
- This website uses Microsoft Clarity analytics, and stores your email only if you ask for early access.
Who we are
WBlur is made by Imran Baali (“we”, “us”), based in the United States. This policy covers the WBlur Mac app, the WBlur browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and other browsers, and the website at wblur.com.
Questions about privacy: me@kirwako.dev.
Your WhatsApp messages
WBlur only changes how WhatsApp looks on your screen. It does not read, copy, store or send your messages, chat names, contacts, photos or anything else from WhatsApp, and it cannot send messages for you.
WBlur is not made by, or affiliated with, WhatsApp or Meta.
The Mac app
- The Mac app contains no analytics or tracking.
- Its only network connection is to Gumroad, our payment provider, to check your license key: when you enter it, and about once a week after that. It sends the license key and nothing else.
- For the 3-day free trial, it saves on your Mac when you first opened it, in the app's preferences and your keychain.
- Your settings (which items to blur, and the layout adjustments you make) are saved on your Mac in the app's preferences.
- If you give WBlur Accessibility access, it reads where WhatsApp's messages, chats and photos are in the WhatsApp window so it can blur each one. This happens on your Mac, while WBlur runs, and nothing is saved or sent. You can remove the access at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
The browser extension
- The extension only runs on web.whatsapp.com and can't see any other website.
- It makes no network requests and contains no analytics or tracking.
- Your settings are saved with your browser's extension storage. If you've turned on sync in your browser, the browser syncs these settings between your devices through your browser account (Google, Mozilla, Microsoft…), under that company's privacy policy. We never receive them.

Analytics
We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use this website, for example which sections people scroll to and where they click. Clarity collects usage data such as clicks, scrolling, your browser and device type, and approximate location, and uses cookies to do it. Microsoft processes this data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. See our cookie policy for the cookies involved.
Early access emails
If you sign up for early access, we receive the email address you enter, through our form provider Form.taxi. We use it only to tell you when WBlur is available, and delete it on request.
Server logs
Like any website, our hosting provider may keep standard request logs (such as IP address, browser and time of the request) for security and reliability.
Purchases
Mac license keys are sold through Gumroad, which processes your payment under the Gumroad privacy policy. We receive the details needed to deliver your license key and support you, such as your name, email address, what you bought and when. We never receive your full card details. When the Mac app checks your key, Gumroad's answer (including the email address you bought with) is saved in your keychain, on your Mac. We keep purchase records for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you (for example your early access email or purchase records), or object to how we use it. Depending on where you live, such as California, the EU or the UK, the law may give you further rights. Email me@kirwako.dev and we'll answer within 30 days.
To delete your WBlur settings, uninstall the Mac app or remove the browser extension.
Children
WBlur isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll also say so on the website.
